About this event

"My purpose as an artist is not to create things of beauty, but to uncover essence"..   Our speaker is Matt Clark, a Metal Sculptor.

Matt Clark's Artist Statement is "Not to create things of beauty but to uncover their essence".  Matt experienced a serious spinal cord injury at the age of 17 ending his dream to be a cowboy.  After eight months in rehabilitation with the medical community dismissing him, he rejected their prognosis and decided to define his own life.  Thirty-five years later, Matt is a successful metal sculptor. He takes metal parts that, like his body, are no longer functional as intended and gives them new purpose in his art.

Matt received Best of Sculpture & People's Choice Award at the 2015 Sears

Invitational Art Show for his piece called "Big Red". He received the Council's

Choice Award at the 2015 St. George Att Festival for his piece titled "Dad's Favorite Horse".  Matt's sculpture of a pony made of many different gears and metal parts and painted different colors stands outside the renowned Painted Pony restaurant in St. George, UT.
