"Yearning to Burning Wood Art" by Lynn Craven

Learn the techniques, supplies, and equipment needed to create your own art on wood. There will be a demonstration of how the burning should be done, samples of wood burned art, information on preparing the wood surface, and how to correct mistakes.

Art has been my interest since grade school. I won a Red Cross art contest in third grade which was in a “Round the World” art exhibit. My major in high school was art and theater.  I attended Long Beach City College, majoring in art and theater arts, getting my AA Degree. I attended Long Beach University, where I got my life time teaching credential in Art and Theater Arts.  I began teaching at Norte Vista High School in California in 1969.  I taught art, stage set design, photography, along with adult art education, plus summer school.  While teaching at NOVI, I attended La Sierra University three nights a week, getting my Masters degree in Multiple Intelligent Education. My mentor professor offered me a chance to do lectures using the Multiple Intelligent theory in art, but I had to refuse because of my commitment to my job at NOVI.

In 2018, we moved to Cedar City, Utah to be near my daughter and granddaughter. I now teach at SUU, night classes for the Community Education program, the subject is Magic.  Yes, I am also a magician.  I was a member of the Academy of Magical Arts at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. My newest interest is Pyrography.  Burning wood to create images in art started about seven months ago and I love it. I have had my work hung in several places in Cedar City. I joined the WAA in February of 2021.
