Artist of the Month
January Artist of the Month
Barbara Rowley
Barbara Rowley, a member of the Virgin Valley Artists Association, is the January artist of the month at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery. Her collection of work will be on display at the Gallery from January 2 through January 31.
Arts and crafts have been a life-long interest for me reports Barbara. At the age of 12 she began knitting, weaving, and designing fiber art. In her 20s Barbara turned to painting on porcelain, then turned back to the fiber arts and added quilting to her list of many accomplishments.
Most of Barbaras education was spent in the Interior Design field, which included a great deal of technical drawing. She also studied art history and took two semesters of Native American art and Native American literature, studying in the traditional classroom and on location in the Lakota Nation.
It has only been the past few years that I have tried my hand at fine art, Barbara shared. I have experimented with almost every medium, including oils, acrylic, graphite, ink, and colored pencil. Recently, Barbara added watercolor to her fine arts work, and said, I find this medium both challenging and exciting.
Barbaras pen and ink drawing of a pomegranate tree won the 2011 Pomegranate Art Festival poster award to be used in their advertising campaign. Her watercolor painting, Desert Flower, recently took the Blue Ribbon in the Lucky 13 competition, a juried national small works exhibition which was shown in November and December at the Mesquite Gallery. Barbara has lived in several states, from east to west, and also spent several years living in the South Pacific. Now residing in Logandale, Nevada, Barbara said, I am always open to new adventures! Added to her many proud accomplishments, Barbara shared that she is a wife of 45 years, a mother of four great children, and a grandmother of six.

Want to show off your newest stained glass project and show others how you did it?
Nothing to be scared of, it is lots of fun!
You will have 30 minutes before the VVAA General Meeting to relax with a group of your VVAA friends and show them something you enjoy doing.
